- Measurements: overall length 99.5 cm; blade length 84.6 cm
- Provenance: “The sword was purchased from Bland, swordcutler in early C19th. WC Nrth Corr; This sword belonged to Charles VI”. By tradition belonged to Emperor Charles VI (1685-1740); purchased by George IV when Prince of Wales before 1806
The hilt, English, is encrusted and overlaid with silver and gold, while the blade made in Solingen, circa 1600-25, is etched and gilded. The blade features an inscription, engraved in Latin: “He who strikes with the sword, dies by the sword and He to whom nature has denied strength, gains his ends through craft. ”
